Dave is the original owner, and the car was converted to dual fuel use in 1980, spent most of it's life on propane until 1998. The propane fittings are still there, but the tank, etc. are not included in the sale - could be purchased separately. He says, "This car was and is a jewel. It was called "old faithful". A fantastic coupe that escaped the factory in even better shape. The ailments of increasing age and inability to bend, move, flex, and do all the neat things younger men easily do made me give up on my fix and repair skills. George says, "It's a decent unrestored car starting to show it's age. Damn good shape for a 180,000 mile car. The paint is showing it's age as is the vinyl top. The very bottom of the rear quarters are starting to bubble. I've owned it for 10 years and put the last 100,000 miles on it. John says, "I bought it off e-bay for $400 and am currently in the process of taking the UGLY thing home. The guy that I bought it from orginally sold it as a package deal with his PacerX. The 360 was suposed to be transplanted into the Pacer, but never was. It's missing the roof liner and the driver side door pannel. The power steering took a dump on me and the brakes are kinda spongy. The seats have been redone quite nicely, not in the orginal pattern, but it still looks good."

Kenneth says, "I bought it two weeks ago, after looking for one for a while. Paid a bit too much for it value-wise, but I like the car. Needed complete tune up, done, complete exhaust, done, and front end redone. The top control arm came apart from car, getting done. The interior looks like crap, but the outside looks pretty good. Runs good now, and should be legal next week, and on the road again. Should pop over 100,000 miles in a couple of weeks."

Claude bought the car in Scranton, PA. He says, "Basically in fairly good condition. Does have rust behind the front wheel wells on both sides. The left front fender needs to be replaced as there is rusting on the top flat area. Right front isn't as bad. The rear roll panel area was rusted through, but a small local body shop completely fiberglassed the area and molded to look like the original metal. They also had to place sheet metal under the carpeting in the driver and passenger area to get it past the MD safety inspectors. Interior in decent shape - needs new carpet as the orginal carpet is partially dry rotted; the seats are in good shape, but will eventually need to the redone. The engine runs great and sounds solid. My son, who this car will eventually pass to, wants to repaint to the original two tone red color combination, with pinstripping to match, if we find the stripping code colors. He wants to add dual exhausts and put a 4bbl carb on the ehgine in the near future. He has expressed the possibilities of sometime putting either a six pack or dual quads on the engine and maybe later change the transmission to a stick shift. But those are down the road aways. There are other small touch ups we want to do, like replace the head lamps with the new HID tech type lamps, etc. to bring it a bit into the 21st century. Later he wants to add chrome covers and fancy lines to dress it up for local shows and cruise nights. He is already getting a lot of looks and comments when we go out with it because it is unique."

Walt purchased the car in the Seattle area. He says, "This is a nice coupe with original interior and newer paint on body. I bought it Nov. of 2000 with 29,000 miles and it still had the original AMC marked spark plug wires, belts and muffler. Muffler and wires were replaced but I kept the wires. I am the thrid owner, the second owner had it for about 9 months before I bought it from him. The car runs nice, ( I just put a new carb). I have always liked the coupe since they came out and finally bought a 1975 model in 1980. I had that one for 7 years until my thrid kid was born and had to trade it in for a more family friendy car. Well, as usual kids grow up and it's time to enjoy a Coupe again. I also used to own a 1968 Rebel while I was in the service and my wife owned a 1975 Pacer and a 1975 Gremlin before I met her."

Dean says: "This coupe was bought new by a middle aged couple in 77, then transfered to his mother in 80. she owned the coupe until 98 when it was sold to the assistant service manager at the former AMC, Dalmer Chrysler dealer in town. The coupe has never been in the snow and has never had more that minimal rust. At this time it needs a grille, and two small old lady hit something else dents. It has been maintained since new by the local AMC dealers. It drives superb and doesn't have a rattle in it. Although the paint is getting old it is still very presentable. the trunk is full of numerous trim parts that go with the coupe. I personally had a 72 AMX 401 Go Package 4 spd and a 74 Matador X 360 4 barrel auto, and a Gremlin X and a Spirit. All were purchased from the same dealer as this Jewel was. I would love to keep her but I have to many toys (7 others)." It's now sold (9/05).

David says: "I customized the paint and vinyl roof - it's now 2-tone black and yellow, and the opera windows are completely covered by the vinyl roof. Also added a stereo sound system with subwoofers. The car has been partially restored and looks like no other Matador you've ever seen. People think it's a Javelin all the time! The engine has been redone, and the tranny needs to be redone. It has a new Edelbrock 4 barrel with intake and I have twin flowmasters with H-pipe underneath. (catalytic removed, heh heh). The car sounds like a Harley and is fast. I will be putting headers on it as soon as I figure out what kind....any suggestions?"

Mark says: "I purchased it on March 25, 2000 near Humbolt for $500. It runs and drives, but needs a carb job. It has some rust and filler on it. It is only missing the chrome piece from the rocker panel on the passenger side. I plan on restoring it in a couple of years." Way to go Mark!

Justin says "My 1977 Matador Barcelona is no jewel, that is for sure. The guy I bought it from bought it in decent condition, but not knowing what kind of a great automobile he had he decided to trash it, and paint it camouflage. The only body panel without a dent is the passenger side door. I guess that's because he always used the driver side door and never really paid much attention to the other side. He did however put a remanufactured engine in it along with an Edelbrock performer intake and four barrel Holly Carb, it originally had a two barrel. It has succesfully made many trips from KY to WV, and also has driven to PA and TX without any problems. Well we did have one problem on the way back from TX, it seems the wires for the switch to the optional oooga horn that he installed decided to short circuit and catch the carpet on fire while we were driving down I-24. I have plans on straightening out the body and possibly putting in bucket seats and a floor shifter. A new paint job is also a priority - possibly a NASCAR theme."
