Vintage LAPD Police Vehicle: 1973 AMC Matador - Retired (Fleet #83986)

This vehicle was found for sale on eBay. This car is a fully restored LAPD police package vehicle, retired from the LAPD Rampart Division in 1986 (serving from 1973-1986), and was part of the original police fleet of the Los Angeles Police Department. Between 1972 and 1973, the LAPD purchased over 600 of these vehicles - most, if not all, have sadly been destroyed or crashed in the movies of the 70's and 80's. This unit was assigned as an unmarked Detective Unit, and still has the shop numbers on the driver's side door panel. It also has the LAPD surplus tag as well. The vehicle has new carpeting, newly refurbished door panels, dash, and electrical as well. All of the exterior parts are NOS factory new: grill, side lights, headlights, rear signals, chrome, everything is new or near new and rebuilt to factory specs. All equipment is vintage surplus LAPD and still has the shop tags, the patrol radio is an original 6 channel Motorola Motrac with the LAPD escutcheon plates (SIMUL) feature, radio mounts, mike, and way too many extras to list! All equipment - everything is original spec with new electrical accessory connections completed in 2001. This is the only known AMC - LAPD Matador that is fully operational from the original fleet. It is the same model car seen on the police series "Adam-12."
