I really like your site and it brings back fond childhood memories of my fathers 1977 AMC Matador station wagon. It was brown with vinyl interior and it was a beast, it ran on regular gas, and had enough room for 2 kids a dog and an 8 foot long christmas tree. My dad sold the car to a guy who just ripped the engine out and discarded the beautiful body for scrap. I really want to find another wagon to buy and have of my own if you know of any I would really appreciate your reply.

I have a new wagon in my family! As chance would have it, I have been very busy on a work project. The work
has kept me away from home, just downsate Illinois a way. I picked up the local paper, just happened to turn to automotive (I always do that!), and there it was. A 1972 local 2-owner Matador wagon for sale. $600.00!
Well, I thought... Rust bucket!. But no, it has a mere 64k miles, just the tiniest evidence of rust in one rear quarter... and it is a 9-passenger! And on top of that, it is black with black interior. It was special ordered by the original owner. 304, PS, Stereo, heavy duty equipment, too.
And I got it for 500 cool ones, with new tires and battery to boot.
Sometimes I feel lucky. Just sometimes : ^ )

....I became interested in these cars at age 9. I am 31 now. The kid I played with next door..his dad drove a 77-78 for the city water board, and we used to play in it...and then later...my best friend from high school, his dad worked for AMC in Kenosha, WI. I have owned a total of 4 Matador sedans and 3 '74 Ambassadors. I am currently down to two '74 Ambo's, a '75 Matador, and a '77 Matador. I need to consolidate...so will probably use 2 for parts for my two nice ones. 10/01/01 - story from Mike Addams |

It's great to finally find a site dedicated to a car that I happen to own. I've looked everywhere for something like this an now I've found it. I own a 75 Matador I call him the beast. Unfortuntly he's been down and out. When I bought him the person who did the rebuild on the motor was a moron because they left loose parts in is and it eventully led to engine failure(after about a year now does that tell you how tough it is or what!) Well I had to rebuild the engine an I've been having some trouble getting it to run right but he will be running soon. 09/09/01 - story from Miguel Aguilar |
