Jeff is one of the now over 250 people who have requested my loft bed plans. He sent me pictures of a completed Queen size mattress version. His letter and pictures are posted below. Hopefully this will inspire some others to send in pictures of their project!

My wife and I had been looking for solutions to create more space in our daughters’ rooms. The loft and bunk systems we’ve looked at in furniture stores are bulky and, more often than not, of substandard construction. I really like what I see on your site and want to thank you for the plans. I showed the different variations to my wife, and she also liked the built-in look and the apparent adaptability of your designs.

Attached are some photos of the first loft nearly finished. Eventually I’ll stain and polyurethane it, but the weekend/vacation is over, so it will have to wait for a while.

I made a few modifications to your plans because we were using a queen mattress. You’ll see that I ran a 2x4 down the center of the length of the bed because of the extra width. Because my daughters seemed a little nervous on the ladders of bunk beds that we looked at in stores, I also made the angle for the ladder much shallower – they’re closer to being steps than a ladder. Finally, I modified the railings and railing holders (using all wood) just for cosmetic purposes.

Thanks again for the plans and the great web site. If I do a second loft for my 5-year-old, I’ll let you know.

P.S. – I’ve been a web developer for a little over ten years now, and I want to congratulate you on your site. It goes a long way to fulfilling the real promise of the Internet – the sharing of information and ideas. Keep up the fantastic work.
